Snapchat ‘Discover’ puts focus on media publishers for content
by Anvil on January 27, 2015Social MediaSnapchat has partnered with some of the top media publishers around to build out a storytelling feature that puts the narrative first. It allows users to experience Stories from different editorial teams.
Snapchat states that this is not to be considered social media. Where other social platforms typically force users to consume content that is most popular or new, Discover relies on the editors and artists of the publishing companies to determine what content is important.
It is clear that Discover was created with the content in mind. Each media publisher has the opportunity to take advantage of:
Full-screen photos and videos
Long-form story layouts
Advertising
Navigating is extremely simple and intuitive: after you tap to open an edition, you can swipe left to browse, or swipe up to read more.
As with Snapchat Stories, every edition in Discover lasts for 24 hours, at which point it gets refreshed with a whole new batch of content.
