A new paper by Antonio Gulli of Università di Pisa and Alessio Signorinialso of the University of Iowa gives us some new assessments about the web, estimating its size to be over 11.5 billion pages with 9.4 billion pages indexed by search engines. The report notes that Google’s coverage of the total web is 69.6% and their claim of having the biggest search index at 8.1 billion pages is pretty accurate. Yahoo! comes in second covering 57.4% with Ask Jeeves and MSN coming in respectively in third & fourth, the latter at 44.3%.
