Talking Semantic Markup at SEMpdx

by Anvil on February 14, 2014semantic web

This past Tuesday, I had the pleasure of addressing SEMpdx at an educational event on semantic SEO and semantic social metadata, alongside Mike Arnesen of SwellPath. Mike is a former colleague of mine, and when we worked together, we bonded over our shared passion for the semantic web and enjoyed every opportunity to pitch Schema.org as a toolkit for clients. I feel that to make all the world’s information as efficiently accessible as possible to as many people as possible is a sincere humanitarian cause, and though this cause still must contend with significant political and infrastructural obstacles, encouraging widespread use of semantic web tools is arguably the principal way in which we SEO practitioners can be of greatest use in serving it.

Will Hattman of Anvil Media and Mike Arnesen of SwellPath talk semantic SEO and social metadata with SEMpdx on February 11th, 2014.

Almost as delightful as my discovery that people can really get into this stuff (the Q&A that followed was utterly fantastic, every question whip-smart and spirited) was my discovery that I really enjoy speaking. This was, in full truth, my first ever talk of this sort, but I can assure you it won’t be my last. It was way too fun never to do again.

You’ll find my deck embedded below; it’s also available for direct download via SlideShare, as is Mike’s fantastic deck about social media metadata, the other half of this equation. For the good of your clients today and for the greater good of the planet as a whole tomorrow and beyond, I can’t overstress the value of learning this stuff.
