Ask Jeeves plans to end its Site Submit program for Web sites, saying its Teoma Web search technology is now powerful enough to ferret out the Web’s nooks and crannies.”We will continue to get better at crawling,” said Jim Lanzone, vice president of product management at Ask Jeeves. “The value proposition of Site Submit has ceased to exist.”
My question: It’s not the Web’s “nooks and crannies”-types of sites that were paying for the PFI service. That wasn’t really the value proposition of the service. The value prop, which has been rumored to be a rankings booster, was geared toward large sites with big budgets.
