Google and TripAdvisor – Can’t we all just get along?
by Anvil on December 10, 2010Local SearchLooks like TripAdvisor might be following in the footsteps of Yelp these days. Currently, it seems TripAdvisor is limiting what Google can display in Google Places listings while they “evaluate” the new changes to Google Places – in some cases this means TripAdvisor reviews being completely removed from listings. Mike Blumenthal speculates that the main change TripAdvisor might be referring to is the new inclusion of booking links directly to listings.
In a quick check of a local hotel listing it appears that TripAdvisor listings are showing, but you have to dig for them. Normally, Google displays review sites in order of total reviews for that particular business from that site– not the case here. While all the other review sites are listed in order, TripAdvisor is pushed to the last page of reviews even though they have the most reviews out of all the sites (232 – with the next closest review site having only 84).
As the plot thickens in this story we’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out. Yelp and Google were able to put aside their differences and work together again – will TripAdvisor be able to do the same?
