Into the Forge

by Anvil on July 13, 2012Search Engine Optimization
I spent the last 3 weeks at Anvil Media as an account intern, as part of the COLABORATORY intern experience. COLAB is a sweet internship that the Portland Advertising Federation (PAF) sets up with a handful of agencies across town. As an intern, I worked at Anvil during the day, and worked on other projects with my fellow interns when not in the office.

I probably never would have chosen Anvil as a place to intern, honestly, but I am so glad that I ended up here. I’m an Advertising student at the University of Oregon, class of ’12, and I fancy myself an account/art director. At first I was not interested in SEO or “digital marketing,” but with 3 weeks under my belt, I am beginning to see the bigger picture of advertising.

Companies, brands and businesses all need ways to share their messages and products. Anvil Media is not in the business of creating work, their primary focus is the magic that goes on behind the curtain and ensures the right messages reach the right ears. There are so many ways of doing this that the folks at Anvil have to be experts at everything. (And they are).

One Account Coordinator told me,
“One year of digital marketing experience is like two or three years anywhere else.”

In this game, you have to stay ahead of the curve if you want to survive.

The Web is transforming the way people interact with businesses, and it is changing fast. I’m glad I got to take a ride in one of the coolest ships leading the charge.

To the team at Anvil, thank you.
And if you still need that .psd, or .xls, let me know.
-Eli
