What happens when you fire that non-performing employee? Well if they know anything about SEO and online reputations, they start posting comments everywhere they can think of. This is exactly what happened to a client of ours. A former disgruntled employee created some negatives reviews on top ranking sites and optimized around branded terms. What a nightmare!
But luckily we caught this in time and quickly, and worked with the client to resolve the issue to ensure no more negative posts. Yes, we called in the dogs (lawyers). Sometimes you have to do that. But in the meantime, we contacted the sites and filed complaints about misrepresentation of the client by the former employee. Many sites will look into the issue and side in your favor, you just have to ask. And the last thing we did within 24 hours was post positive listings on a blog we own and freshen up a few wiki listings, which pushed down the negative reviews. Not a bad day’s worth of work. The issue was resolved in 2 days.
