Anvil Employee Profile: Brandon Elston

Meet Brandon. He is our newest Paid Media Specialist, with a background in SEM and Account Management. He brings with him experience working with small businesses utilizing localized digital marketing strategies to provide growth and traffic to their businesses.

Why did you choose a career in digital marketing?

I got started off early with my love with marketing. Growing up, I always enjoyed staying up late to watch infomercials for things like the Magic Bullet or National Geographic Magazine. I could nearly recite each of those commercials to a T! That is a big reason in how I decided to get my degree in marketing. After my first job out of college I moved to Portland and got an interview as a Digital Marketing Account Manager. Before this interview, I could not tell you the first thing about how Google worked. Diving deeper and learning all I could to prepare for the interview, I was blown away by all the intricacies in SEO and how Google actually got its results. From there, the rest was history.

What originally attracted you to Anvil?

Earlier this year, I was looking to take the next steps in my career and find somewhere new that had a great company culture that aligned with myself. I was looking for somewhere that would challenge me while focusing on growth. When I came across Anvil’s listing for a Paid Media Specialist it was like I wrote the position for myself. Anvil’s culture and devotion to personal development made it a match made in heaven.

What is the favorite part of your job at Anvil?

My favorite thing would have to be problem solving. I love being able to work with clients and translate their business goals into actionable items we can solve through advertising. Beyond that, I am one of those people that loves to dig through ad accounts and see why something changed month to month, test things out, and look at trends to project future results. That is one thing that drives me in my role is that we can always strive to be better and there is always something we can improve upon.

Who is your favorite Anvil client and why?

Oh this is putting me on the spot! It’s like choosing a favorite child. If I had to choose just one it would have to be First Tech. I have had the most contact with them and our calls have been great! They also run ads on many different platforms that lets me to learn more about them as I work with them.

What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment to date at Anvil and why?

I am still pretty new to Anvil so I would have to say figuring out our meeting platform, UberConference, has been the top of the list! Now during calls people can hear AND SEE me in crystal clear quality.

What digital marketing influencers, blogs, podcasts, or publications do you find most informative for your career?

I have always learned a lot from Search Engine Land and their podcast Marketing O’ClockGoogle’s Ads on air has also been helpful when I’m learning something new to me like offline conversions. Lastly, I joined SEMpdx this year because it was free due to COVID-19 and so far the monthly webinars have been great. I think anytime you can connect with a community of your peers to learn and bounce ideas off of it is a win win!
