Here at Anvil, we believe in supporting our local community by offering pro bono services, volunteering time outside of work and making charitable donations to those in need. With the New Year right around the corner, it is time to select Anvil’s Charity of Choice for 2014. The annual Charity of Choice will receive pro bono services including search engine optimization, paid search marketing and social media, dependent on the specific needs of the charity. A second charity will also receive a $500 cash donation as part of our quarterly giving program.
Anvil’s Charity of Choice will be selected by a public vote on the Anvil Facebook page. Anvil employees have put together a list of four deserving nominees, all who are highlighted below. Take a look and see the amazing work each of these organizations are doing in the Portland community and then head over to our Facebook page where you can cast your vote.
Free Geek
Free Geek’s mission is to recycle technology and provide access to computers, the Internet, education, and job skills in exchange for community service. Free Geek trains volunteers to build computers from donated parts and then grants them out to schools, non-profits, religious and other community change organizations. Volunteers can volunteer for 24 hours to get a free computer or build their own after building five for others.

GiveTokens.org
GiveTokens.org is a non-profit who mints coins that people can give to the homeless instead of cash. These coins can be redeemed for food, clothing, showers, shelter, and hygiene products from local businesses. Give Tokens was created as a way to help friends (and now you) help the homeless by removing the “ultimate use” concerns many people have about giving cash.

Make-A-Wish Oregon
Make-A-Wish®Oregon serves children with life-threatening medical conditions living in Oregon and Clark County, Washington, from its headquarters in downtown Portland. The organization hopes to grant about 200 wishes each year with the help of volunteer wish granters throughout the region. The Make-A-Wish Oregon chapter has grated more than 2,900 wishes since its inception in 1983.

One Dream Movement
One Dream Movement focuses on awareness of human trafficking in the United States and aftercare for sex trafficking survivors and sex workers who desire to exit the sex industry. Human trafficking is modern day slavery, a crime against humanity that makes more money than any other illegal activity. One Dream Movement provides services for survivors and trains the community and public with awareness programs.

Oregon Wild
Oregon Wild works to protect and restore Oregon’s wildlands, wildlife and waters as an enduring legacy for all Oregonians. Our wilderness, old-growth forest and clean rivers/watersheds programs protect pristine drinking water, unparalleled recreation opportunities and fish and wildlife habitat across Oregon. Oregon Wild’s strength is its active grassroots citizen network. Through the power of 3,000 members, over 11,000 e-mail activists and dozens of active volunteers, Oregon Wild works to maintain environmental laws, while building broad community support for our campaigns.
