Vicious Rumors Can Hurt – Just ask Andy

As you all might know, I follow Andy Beal at MarketingPilgrim since he is the online reputation guru. Today he posted about the importance of monitoring your online reputation. His example: Mr. Steve Jobs over at Apple.

The story goes that AlleyInsider.com posted a false report that Steve had suffered a major heart attack. Andy looked up the stock price and saw that it tanked soon after. (I wish I had that much importance in the world…) If you were Apple, you would have quickly squashed such rumors since you would be tracking what is being said.

Lesson to be learned: montior what is said about you online and get in the conversation!
