How Much Info is Too Much Info?

A recent post on Cre8pc’s blog got me thinking about how much information we are sharing with each other:

“If a group of your industry peers supported a political view or candidate, set up a web site and promoted themselves as supporters, and you strongly disagree with that view or candidate, would you feel differently about them? Enough to not associate with them? Work with them? Refer work to them?”

“Whenever we remove our mask and people see the real us, there’s a risk. How much of yourself are you willing to reveal? Is it important to doing business online”

How many of you have wished that you hadn’t posted that picture to flickr from the beer fest? or mentioned that crazy thing you did at Burning Man in a recent blog post? I think we all have some type of professional boundary but that it can certainly be crossed after hours and that’s okay. The personal and professional sides make us the unique individuals that we are. I personally like to learn about the personal sides of co-workers, partners, and clients – I guess not the too personal stuff! But it’s in learning about the threads we share make us a stronger team.

This wouldn’t be a reputation management post if I didn’t say to keep it clean and not put anything on the web you wouldn’t want your mother to see…I guess unless she was at Burning Man with you.
